Tooth Whitetenings |
Besides routine scaling and polishing we do bleaching or teeth whitening which is a process of removing stains and discoloration from teeth and improving their color. Bleaching process make teeth look “whiter”. particularly for heavily stained teeth a significant improvement in appearance can be achieved following a bleaching procedure. Most cosmetic dental practices today offer a combination of in-surgery or office bleaching with or without laser assistance bleaching and professional take-home tooth whitening kits with custom made trays. Both procedures are based on a bleaching process which uses a peroxide based compound which varies in strength (15-38% peroxide). The higher the concentration of peroxide in the compound the more powerful the bleaching compound is. This means it is more effective at whitening the teeth but at the same time has a greater potential to cause damage to the surrounding gum tissue and your lips. We strongly recommend professional bleaching as it is more safe and dentist are better position to give you the best advice you need, besides they are well trained and have the means and instruments to isolates and protect your gums and lips from strong peroxide which is used initially to give you the best result. It is for this reason that home whitening kits usually have a low concentration of peroxide so that there is less chance of any damage occurring at home. For your safety we always recommend clinical supervised whitening for best result and avoid undue damage to the gums. |
