The saddle or base bears the teeth and covers the edentulous areas of the jaw it is either made of acrylic material or metal. Partial denture replaces few missing teeth while complete dentures replace the whole mouth. Denture can be either immediate or conventional. A conventional full denture or partial denture is made and placed in your mouth after completely healing has taken place which took a minimum of 4- 8 weeks depending on your health. Whereas immediate complete or partial denture is inserted into your mouth as soon as the tooth or teeth are removed.

With immediate dentures, you do not have to be without teeth during the healing period, however you have to know that, bones and gums shrink over time during the period of healing and in the first six months after the removal of tooth/teeth the immediate dentures will require rebasing or relining to fit properly as it become loose due to the healing shrinkage. We always advice our patient to make the conventional denture once the tissues have healed completely approximately 4 - 8 weeks after the extraction. Dentures are usually the least costly compare to bridges or implants.

Once you have made your dentures you need to maintain them and care for them by cleaning and wash with soap every day and during the night or when sleeping put them in glass or jar of water, always brush them daily with normal tooth paste to prevent build up of plaque and tartar.
